Grace Fish Tea Soup Mix is a dry soup/broth mix from Jamaica designed to produce a “fish tea” style soup (a light, flavourful broth), or to add rich seasoning to fish, chicken, rice, or other dishes. It includes noodles, spices, fish powder, and various seasonings.
Ingredients (Typical — may vary by version or region)
Based on product listings, here are the components commonly found in the mix:
Dried noodles (wheat flour, water) — a major component
Fortified wheat flour (with calcium carbonate, iron, niacin, thiamine, etc.)
Salt
Yeast extract, sugar, dextrose, maltodextrin (for flavour and texture)
Fish powder (~2.8%) — often from cod, pollock, haddock
Hydrolysed corn and soy proteins
Tomato powder, carrot granules or extracts, onion powder, paprika, black pepper
Vegetable oil (e.g. palm oil)
Spices and colour extracts (turmeric, paprika, etc.) for flavour and colour.
Contains wheat / gluten (dried noodles, wheat flour).
Contains fish powder (cod, pollock, haddock) — fish is a declared allergen.
Contains soy / soybean derivatives (hydrolysed soy protein) in many versions.
May contain milk or its derivatives (as trace, depending on variant).
High in salt / sodium — the salt content per serving is significant. Using this as a seasoning you’ll want to moderate quantity or supplement carefully.
Mix the dry mix into about 500 ml cold water (or as instructed on the pack), bring to boil, then simmer 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
It can be used as a broth / light soup on its own or as flavour base added to other soups, rice, chicken, fish, vegetables etc.
Because of its high salt, you may choose to reduce other added salt and flavourings in the rest of your cooking when using this.
